Biography
DR. LAWRENCE S. FELDMAN, Miami-Dade County Public Schools Vice Chair, was elected to office in August 2008. Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) is the fourth largest school system in the United States serving over 370,000 students and the largest employer in Miami-Dade County with over 50,000 employees.
Dr. Feldman currently serves as Secretary to the Greater Florida Consortium of School Boards and serves as both the M-DCPS Board representative to the Council of Great City Schools and a member of the Council of Great City Schools Board of Directors.
His appointments include serving as a member on the Miami Dade College Baccalaureate in Education Advisory Committee; Board of Directors, Drug Free Youth In Town (DFY-IT); Board of Directors, The Education Fund; Board Representative, Florida School Board Association; Board’s Alternate Legislative Liaison, Florida School Board Association; Member, Florida High School Athletic Association, Section Four Appeals Committee; Vice Chair, Homestead Education Facilities Benefit District; member of the Education in Neruodevelopmental Disabilities (LEND) Training Program Community Advisory Board; and member of the Zoological Society of Florida (ZSF.) He is honored to serve on the Miami-Dade Defense Alliance Joint Military Affairs Committee supporting military families and, particularly, the Homestead Air Force Base Reserve community.
During his over 35 years of service to M-DCPS, he has honorably served the educational community as a teacher, assistant principal, principal and regional director throughout the diverse and varied communities of Miami. For over twenty years, Dr. Feldman’s expertise and experience in the areas of public education, innovative educational models, and systemic reform enhanced his work as a Senior Consultant to the Panasonic Foundation. Additionally, he committed eight years of service to the U.S. Treasury Department as a customs inspector.
Dr. Feldman has been the recipient of numerous awards and honors including the 2008 Administrator of the Year and the Superintendent's Award for Merit and Leadership, Region VI each year from 1990 through 1996. Additionally, he has served as keynote speaker, participant or facilitator for numerous educational leadership panels and symposiums, including the Council of Great City Schools, The University of Miami, at the invitation of Dr. Donna Shalala, President, and the Oxford University Round Table. His philanthropic endeavors at large include lectures, speeches and hands-on services to various foundations and school districts throughout the United States and China.
He received both his B.A. in Elementary Education and M.Ed. in Special Education from the University of Florida and his Ph.D. in Educational Leadership/System Reform from The Union Institute and University, Cincinnati, Ohio. |
